I am Metez (Yanghee Kim), an artist working in the field of protruding painting, a unique practice that expands the conventional boundaries of the painted surface. Through the interplay of abstraction and landscape, I search for a formative language that captures a painterly experience unattainable within the flat, screen-based nature of digital media.

My works emerge from a process that builds the surface outward—layering, sculpting, and shaping paint so that it physically extends into space. This tactile presence creates a sense of depth, movement, and material intensity that invites viewers to experience painting not only visually but spatially and emotionally. The protruding forms echo natural topographies, abstract rhythms, and shifting horizons, transforming the canvas into a terrain that must be navigated rather than simply viewed.

By emphasizing texture, dimensionality, and the physical weight of material, I aim to restore a sensory quality that digital images cannot replicate.
