We all strive relentlessly for recognition in society, yet we often experience pain—sometimes being exploited for others' benefit or forced to endure situations against our will. As I delved into the darkness and emotional wounds accumulated through these recurring experiences, I focused on the existence of the 'Voodoo Doll.'
The Voodoo Doll, as seen in films and literature, is perhaps not a tool of actual curses, but rather a creation symbolizing the dark recesses of the human heart. The image of the person selfishly sticking the pin and the doll silently enduring the pain only to be discarded reflects the reality of how we inflict and receive emotional wounds in society.
This sense of shared plight—my own and that of the seemingly powerless Voodoo Doll—inspired the creation of the character 'VOO.' 'VOO' is both a representation of myself and a mirror reflecting all of us.
Through this small doll 'VOO,' who possesses the 'heart' of an ordinary person, I aim to share the sad, dark stories and emotions we have kept hidden within ourselves. Ultimately, I hope these paintings become a medium for fostering deep empathy and warm affection among us, offering a source of solace and comfort.
