I am an artist who interprets and expresses Korean aesthetics through my own perspective, continually searching for identity within tradition and personal experience. My work is rooted in an interest in how cultural memory, material, and time can be preserved and reimagined in contemporary form.
I majored in Western painting during my undergraduate studies, where I built a strong foundation in composition and painterly expression. I later completed a master’s degree in ceramic painting, which allowed me to move beyond the flat surface and explore the physical depth and permanence of materials. This shift led me to view ceramics as a meaningful surface for painting rather than solely a craft medium.
My practice centers on ceramic painting, combining painting with the durability of ceramics to embody the idea of preserving precious things. I developed a working method that merges printmaking etching techniques with ceramic processes, enabling diverse painterly expressions on ceramic surfaces. I call this approach “Ceraching” (Ceramic + Etching), a technique that expands the expressive possibilities between painting and ceramics.
