From more than two decades of caring for ornamental fish since childhood, Lee Doo Ri has developed an intuitive understanding of the cycle of life, the mysteries of nature, and the quiet order that governs all living things. Observing fish within the microcosm of an aquarium allowed her to witness birth, growth, decay, and renewal on an intimate scale—experiences that mirrored the complexities of human life itself. These early encounters became the foundation of her artistic language.
Lee’s work is deeply rooted in the philosophy of reincarnation, drawing from mythical narratives, karmic concepts, and reflections on the human condition. Her paintings and installations explore how life continually transforms, returning in new forms while carrying traces of previous existence. Through layered imagery, symbolic motifs, and fluid compositions, she visualizes the unseen cycles that connect nature and humanity.
By translating these spiritual and observational insights into contemporary art, Lee creates works that invite viewers to contemplate the interconnectedness of all beings. Her practice ultimately reveals a poetic vision of life—one shaped by repetition, transformation, and the perpetual flow between the visible world and the unseen forces that guide it.
