I paint cool, serene landscapes defined by waves and open horizons, using Korean traditional painting techniques to express both tranquility and underlying tension. At first glance, the scenes appear peaceful—gentle water surfaces, soft gradients of sky, and the stillness of nature preserved in brush and ink. Yet beneath this sense of calm lies a deeper narrative. Within the quiet abundance of modern life, moments of disaster and tragedy often rise without warning, breaking the illusion of stability. These hidden fragments of disruption, subtly embedded within the waves, reflect the fragile balance between comfort and crisis that shapes contemporary existence.
My work explores how beauty and unease can coexist within a single landscape. By layering delicate brushstrokes, controlled ink washes, and atmospheric textures, I create a visual language that mirrors the emotional undercurrents of daily life. The waves become metaphors—symbols of memories we suppress, fears we carry, and unexpected events that surface from time to time. Ultimately, these paintings invite viewers to pause, breathe, and confront the reality that serenity is never separate from vulnerability. In the shifting movement of water and the quiet tension beneath it, we are reminded of the complexity of life and the resilience required to move through it.
