I paint cool, serene landscapes defined by waves and open horizons, using Korean traditional painting techniques to convey both tranquility and tension. At first glance, the scenes appear calm and meditative, evoking the stillness of nature and the quiet beauty found in water. Yet beneath this serenity lies a deeper narrative—fragments of disaster, tragedy, and rupture that suddenly emerge within the abundance of modern life.
By juxtaposing peaceful ocean surfaces with subtle traces of disruption, my work reflects how instability can appear without warning, even in moments that seem safe or ordinary. The waves become metaphors for the emotional and social shocks that shape contemporary existence, rising and collapsing in continuous cycles.
Through delicate brushwork, layered ink, and the atmospheric sensibility of Korean painting, I explore how beauty and unease coexist within the same landscape. My practice aims to reveal the duality of the world we inhabit: a place where calm and catastrophe are never far apart, and where even the most serene waters can hold hidden stories. Ultimately, the paintings invite viewers to confront the fragile balance between harmony and vulnerability in modern life.
