Korean painter Yeonyeon Jung explores the emotions, psychology, and social meanings that lie beyond the visible imagery of female figures and the universe. Her work searches for the hidden layers of human experience—feelings that are often unspoken yet deeply embedded within personal and collective memory.
Jung’s artistic practice unfolds in two distinct yet interconnected genres: figurative and abstract. In her figurative paintings, the ornate, flowing beauty reminiscent of Art Nouveau functions as a visual veil. Behind this elegance, she reveals anxieties, emotional wounds, and the social contradictions that shape women’s lives. The detailed lines and decorative elements heighten the tension between external beauty and internal complexity.
Her abstract works, in contrast, delve into the temporality of human existence and the vastness of the cosmos. Through material and technical experimentation—such as metal corrosion, the use of iron, bronze, and other reactive mediums—she expands the boundaries of painting itself. These surfaces reflect cycles of decay, transformation, and rebirth, echoing the rhythm of time and the universe.
Together, Jung’s two modes of expression form a cohesive inquiry into what it means to exist, feel, and endure in both the intimate inner world and the infinite cosmic realm.
