Nam ji hyung
Under the overarching theme of “Symbiosis,” my work envisions a world where humans, animals, and nature transcend boundaries to coexist like one family.
The animals in my paintings are not mere subjects; they are “another face of ourselves,” reflecting human emotion, vulnerability, and warmth. Tigers, polar bears, rabbits, penguins, and other animals appear dressed like humans, interacting with familiar objects and everyday landscapes, often embracing one another. These scenes symbolize equality without hierarchy, suggesting a world grounded in mutual care, empathy, and coexistence.
Rendered with vivid detail and a gentle, storybook-like atmosphere, the works invite viewers to imagine a reality where difference does not lead to division. By using animals as symbolic mirrors of humanity, the paintings offer comfort while quietly questioning how we relate to one another and to the natural world.
The artist’s work is also featured on Artsy, where it is presented to a global audience, reflecting growing international interest in contemporary Korean art that combines narrative warmth with thoughtful social reflection.
