DO MIN
Painter DoMin is an artist who poses fundamental questions about human existence through the consistent motif of the 'die'. On his canvas, the die transcends being a mere object to become a world in itself, embodying life's possibilities, choices, and inherent aspirations.
The die, holding infinite possibilities within the stable form of a hexahedron, is the perfect medium for the artist to explore the tension between fate and will. Through this small cube, the artist conveys the craving for success, the anguish felt at moments of choice, and the positive human energy that endures it all to move forward.
His artistic world is underpinned by the meticulous techniques of hyperrealism. The precisely rendered texture of the dice, the reflection of light, and the cast shadows on the canvas bestow an overwhelming sense of reality upon the subject, leading the viewer into a space of meditation. Beyond the cold materiality and geometric form, viewers come face to face with their own lives and desires before his dice.
Building on the solid foundation he established while majoring in Western Painting at Chugye University for the Arts, DoMin has continually expanded his expressive horizons, evolving in step with the times rather than resting on his laurels. His artistic journey is a testament to an exploratory spirit that delves deeply into a single theme while constantly attempting variations in its method of expression.
DoMin has been an active artist both in Korea and internaionally, with 15 solo exhibitions and over 260 group exhibitions. His work continues to garner steady attention from critics and collectors for its solid formative language and philosophical depth.
