Statement

“In the beginning, there was nothing. Yet from nothing, everything was born.”

My work explores the sublimity and value of life’s creation. I use eggshells, a symbol of birth and resurrection, as my primary material—infusing the surface with energy and giving form to imagery through their material properties. Though fragile and easily broken, eggshells transform into a strong and solid structure through density, accumulation, and repetition. The act of connecting each fragment by hand becomes a symbolic process of shaping life and embodying its weight.

The visualized forms on the canvas represent the nonfigurative image of an egg, a metaphor for the birth of life and the manifestation of will and vitality. Life, at the moment of birth, struggles to emerge into the world by its own power. I express this will and energy of life through the tactile and material nature of the medium.

My work is primarily composed of white and black. The white of the eggshell, unlike pigment-based white, carries a tactile and sacred quality, representing light and resurrection as described in the Bible. In contrast, black signifies death and silence, as well as the womb — the origin of all life. The forms appear static, yet each fragment vibrates with inner vitality.

Even in nature, no being is complete on its own; opposites must coexist to achieve wholeness. Thus, my work embodies the coexistence of birth and death, white and black, stillness and movement.

Each fragment is individually attached by hand, making every piece unique—no two works are ever identical. Through their distinct textures, forms, and characters, they reflect the natural truth that no life in the world is the same. While they may appear similar, each possesses its own individuality and living presence.

Ultimately, the eggshell, though fragile, gains strength through its weakness and regains light through its fracture. My work seeks to visually evoke this cyclical paradox of strength within fragility, awakening the viewer to the sacred value of life’s creation and rebirth.
